Philippe Clement has been named as Norwich City’s new manager.
The Canaries hired the Belgian manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal to take over from Liam Manning as manager.
Norwich City fired Manning, 40, after 17 games in charge. A 2-1 loss to Leicester City was the last straw for the club’s directors. Norwich City is currently 23rd in the Championship table. They would be dead last if Sheffield Wednesday hadn’t lost points after filing for bankruptcy. The team’s goal difference is -9, which is better than the team ahead of them, Sheffield United, but not good enough to keep them from going down.
Before this, Clement was let go by Scottish club Rangers, who were 13 points behind Celtic in the league table. “After meeting the owners and hearing some of their plans for the club, I’m sure this is the right thing to do.”
Clement said, “I’ve known this club for a long time. Things aren’t going well for us right now, but we’re excited to work with the players and staff to make things better.” In the short term, our job is to fix what’s wrong and make everyone believe again, but they have big plans for the future. Clement’s first game as manager will be on November 29, against 16th-placed QPR in the Championship.
Clement has never been in charge of a Championship club before. He was in charge of Rangers until he was fired earlier this year. Before that, he was in charge of AS Monaco, Club Brugge, and Genk.
