Rangers F.C. head coach Danny Röhl, who took over from Russell Martin in October after a difficult start to the season, is already in discussions with chairman Andrew Cavenagh about strengthening the squad in the January transfer window.
The club faces several challenges, including winger Oliver Antman being sidelined for eight weeks with a thigh injury, and Ivory Coast midfielder Mohamed Diomande and Burkina Faso defender Nasser Djiga expected to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations from December 21 to January 18.
Röhl, speaking about his collaboration with Cavenagh, said they communicate every two to three days to review the squad and identify the player profiles needed. He emphasised that incoming players must possess natural aggressiveness, understand the demands of playing for Rangers, and fit the club’s environment.
The coach also stressed the importance of making the right decisions, focusing on quality over quantity when bringing in new players, and maintaining a balanced squad with enough competition in each position.
He added that signings should not just be about physical attributes, but also the mental quickness to make decisions, receive the ball efficiently, and accelerate the team’s style of play.
With key figures such as sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart recently departed, Röhl now holds more influence over transfers and is determined to take decisive steps to improve the team ahead of their Scottish Premiership trip to Dundee United, with Rangers currently fourth in the table following a goalless draw against Falkirk.
