Awkward! Rangers coach dumps hire car after realising it’s in full Celtic colours — “You can’t be seen in that!”

You Can’t Drive That!” — Rangers Coach Sascha Lense Forced to Swap Car Over Celtic Colours

Rangers coach Sascha Lense has revealed he had to change the colour of his car shortly after arriving in Glasgow — all because of the fierce rivalry with Celtic.

Lense, who joined Danny Röhl’s backroom team earlier this year, is no stranger to high-pressure derbies. The pair previously worked together at RB Leipzig, and Lense’s CV includes spells at Schalke, Manchester United, Leipzig, and Sheffield Wednesday. With that kind of experience, he’s seen more than a few heated rivalries.

But nothing, he admits, compares to the intensity of Rangers vs. Celtic.

Despite his long list of derby credentials, Lense quickly discovered just how deep the colours run in Glasgow — literally. When he arrived at Ibrox, he had ordered a leased green Mini Cooper, the same colour it was advertised in. But the reaction inside the club was immediate.

“I was told straight away, ‘You can’t drive that — nobody drives green here,’” Lense explained.
“I actually had to exchange it. Now I have a black one.”

For most people, a green car is just a green car. But in Glasgow, green means Celtic — and that’s a line no one at Rangers crosses lightly.

Lense joked that he considered himself “derby-experienced,” having been part of Dortmund vs. Schalke, Manchester United vs. Liverpool, and the Steel City derby between Sheffield United and Wednesday.

But even after all that, he admits:

“There’s simply no getting around the Old Firm; it’s hard to beat.”

A green Mini Cooper became his first lesson in understanding just how powerful — and unavoidable — the Old Firm rivalry truly is.
