Magpies determined to land one of the continent’s most talented playmakers

Newcastle United targeting Bundesliga talent for 2026 Premier League return

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to bring an impressive Bundesliga player back to the Premier League in 2026, as they continue to strengthen their squad depth.

Shock Wissa boost for Newcastle ahead of Burnley

In Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle could have used the firepower of Yoane Wissa. The Magpies welcomed news that Wissa had been left out of DR Congo’s African Cup of Nations squad, but their summer signing is yet to feature on the pitch.

That could soon change. According to The Daily Mail, journalist Craig Hope reported on Wednesday that Wissa is “pushing” to make a surprise return to the bench for Newcastle’s upcoming clash with Burnley. With fixtures coming thick and fast, Wissa’s return would be a major boost for Eddie Howe, who has yet to see his summer signing in action.

Looking beyond Wissa: January transfer targets

Wissa may not be the only player set to strengthen Newcastle in the near future. With the January transfer window approaching, reports suggest the club is preparing a move for Igor Thiago, mirroring the Wissa situation.

The Brentford forward, who replaced Wissa in West London, has been prolific, only outscored in the Premier League by Erling Haaland this season. Over his time away from Leicester City, Thiago has scored five goals and registered six assists across all competitions, but his ambition remains to return to the Premier League — a move Newcastle could offer in 2026.

Newcastle determined to sign Bilal El Khannouss

TeamTalk reports that Newcastle are also eyeing Bilal El Khannouss for 2026. The club may pursue his signature once his loan at VfB Stuttgart concludes next summer.

Described as one of the “most intelligent creators” by scout Ben Mattinson in April, the 21-year-old midfielder is eager to reignite his Premier League career after a quiet spell at Leicester City last season. Newcastle could be the perfect destination for him to make that comeback.

With these potential additions, Newcastle appear focused on bolstering their squad with proven talent and creative playmakers, laying the groundwork for a strong 2026 campaign in England’s top flight.
