Carlos Carvalhal has retracted his claim regarding Sheffield Wednesday as plans for a visit to Hillsborough are put in place

Carlos Carvalhal pays tribute to Sheffield Wednesday on 60th birthday

On his 60th birthday, former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal reflected on the important role the club has played in his life. Despite leaving Hillsborough nearly eight years ago, the Portuguese coach remains highly respected by fans.

Wednesday, however, are facing one of their toughest periods in recent history. A recent six-point deduction for repeated wage delays adds to an earlier 12-point penalty after the club entered administration, leaving them under the control of administrators Begbies Traynor. The hope is that a new, trusted ownership group can take charge and stabilize the club.

Carvalhal, who was the first managerial appointment under chairman Dejphon Chansiri in 2015, had a relatively successful stint. His tenure included a memorable 3-0 EFL Cup win over Arsenal, two Championship play-off campaigns, and the recruitment of fan favourites like Barry Bannan, who still captains the club today. Over 131 games, Carvalhal achieved 56 wins and came closest to guiding Wednesday back to the Premier League since 2000.

Although a planned return to Hillsborough in October was postponed due to fan protests against Chansiri, Carvalhal has continued to express his affection for the club on social media, reaffirming his desire to meet supporters again. Since leaving, he has managed six other clubs, including Swansea City, Olympiacos, and Braga, keeping him busy and away from South Yorkshire.

While no date is set for his return, Carvalhal remains a beloved figure at Hillsborough, and he will be watching closely as the club hopes a new ownership consortium can provide the foundation for a brighter future.

Carlos Carvalhal’s potential return to Sheffield Wednesday

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has once again expressed his affection for the club, hinting at a possible return to Hillsborough. Plans for a visit had been scheduled earlier this year but were postponed due to fan protests against former chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

Although no date has been confirmed, Carvalhal remains a highly respected figure among supporters. Since leaving Wednesday in 2017, he has managed six other clubs, including Swansea City, Olympiacos, and Braga. Fans hope that a return could coincide with a new ownership consortium stabilizing the club after recent administrative and financial challenges.
