‘I was angry’ – Danny Röhl reveals what was said in Rangers squad meeting

Danny Röhl calls Rangers meeting after ‘angry’ Ferencváros defeat

Danny Röhl gathered his Rangers squad for a team meeting after admitting he was left frustrated by aspects of their Europa League defeat to Ferencváros.

Rangers slipped to a 2–1 loss in Budapest on Thursday, leaving them still without a win in Europe this season. The performance drew criticism, particularly defensively, with pundits questioning how easily goals were conceded once again on the continental stage.

With Hibernian visiting Ibrox on Monday night, Röhl has had little time to dwell on the setback but was keen to address the issues immediately.

Röhl looks to take lessons from European disappointment

The Rangers head coach brought his players together on Saturday morning to review the defeat and identify areas for improvement. The Monday fixture at least provides a slightly extended recovery period compared to a Sunday match.

Speaking to reporters, via Rangers Review, Röhl explained the purpose of the meeting.

“We had a meeting this morning and talked through the game,” he said. “It’s important that we address what happened and then move on. In the league, we want to keep building on our run of five wins and two draws.

“There are moments from Thursday that we can learn from — that’s something I constantly stress. Consistency is key.

“I was angry after the match, and I showed the players exactly where we did what we want to see and where we fell short.”

Röhl knows Rangers cannot afford lapses in concentration like those seen in Hungary, particularly with domestic fixtures coming thick and fast. Any repeat at Ibrox could quickly lead to further frustration.

While European form has been a major

disappointment this season — with the Ferencváros defeat effectively ending Rangers’ continental hopes — results at home tell a more encouraging story.

Under Röhl, Rangers have won five of their last seven league matches, matching the total achieved across the previous 18 games before his arrival.

Just as importantly, they have recorded four clean sheets in their last five Premiership outings — the same number they managed in the 28 matches prior.

Improving defensive solidity was Röhl’s first priority, and progress has been evident. The next challenge is converting recent draws into victories.

Although back-to-back stalemates against Falkirk and Dundee United showed there is still work to do, Rangers remain unbeaten in the league since Röhl took charge
