Rangers Forced Into Minor Schedule Change as Cup Tie Is Moved
Danny Rohl will need to make a small adjustment to his planning after one of Rangers’ upcoming fixtures was rescheduled.
As 2026 approaches, the Gers remain active in three competitions, although their European campaign is effectively over. Last week’s 2-1 defeat to Ferencváros has left Rangers with almost no realistic chance of progressing to the Europa League knockout play-off round.
Domestic matters now remember the focus. Rangers welcome Hibernian in their next Scottish Premiership fixture, knowing that a win is essential if they are to keep faint title hopes alive. With the Scottish Cup also set to begin in the coming weeks, Rohl is facing a demanding run of matches.
Scottish Cup clash with Annan Athletic moved
The Scottish Cup represents Rangers’ clearest opportunity to secure silverware this season, making it a major priority for Rohl.
Last term ended in humiliation as Rangers were knocked out by Queen’s Park, widely regarded as one of the most painful defeats in the club’s history. The season before that, they fell short in the final against Celtic. As a result, expectations are high that Rangers go all the way this time around.
Their cup journey begins against Annan Athletic in January, but the fixture has now been rescheduled for television coverage. Originally set for January 17, the match will instead be played on Friday, January 16, with a 7:45pm kick-off and live coverage on Premier Sports.
Annan Athletic confirmed the change via their official website on Monday. Broadcasters will no doubt be hoping for a shock result at Ibrox, and recent cup history suggests Rangers cannot afford to be complacent.
Fans face rearranged plans
Although the tie is still several weeks away, many supporters will already have made arrangements to attend the game. Those travelling long distances or planning weekends around the fixture will now need to rethink their schedules.
While Ibrox hasn’t always been full even for higher-profile matches this season, there will be hope that the stadium is well attended for the start of what Rangers will want to be a memorable cup run.
With Rohl seemingly placing major emphasis on the competition, a strong starting XI is expected when Rangers finally take to the pitch against Annan Athletic.
