Birmingham City suffer injury setback before Sheffield United clash

Birmingham City confirm James Beadle injury blow ahead of Sheffield United trip

Birmingham City will travel to Bramall Lane next weekend without goalkeeper James Beadle after boss Chris Davies confirmed the loanee has been sidelined by an ankle injury.

The Blues head to South Yorkshire on the back of a three-game winless run and will be forced to make do without the Brighton & Hove Albion stopper, who is expected to miss “two or three games.” As a result, Beadle will be denied a return to Sheffield, a city he knows well after two recent loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign at Hillsborough before returning for the full season last year. He joined Birmingham on a season-long loan in July and has featured 12 times in the Championship so far, recording three clean sheets. After beginning the season as Ryan Allsop’s understudy, Beadle had worked his way into Davies’ plans before missing Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic.

While the injury is not thought to be serious, Davies confirmed Beadle will definitely sit out the trip to face Sheffield United.

“We don’t know the exact length,” Davies explained. “From my understanding it’s not a long-term injury, but there needs to be liaison with Brighton as his parent club. We’ll link up with them and put a plan together.

“My understanding is it’s two or three games, but we should have more confirmation next week.”

Birmingham will now have to reshuffle between the posts as they prepare for a tough Championship test at Bramall Lane.
