Danny Röhl gives his verdict on the title race after Rangers fall 1-0 to Hibernian

Danny Röhl played down suggestions that Rangers could re-enter the title race following their 1-0 victory over Hibernian on Wednesday evening.

Emmanuel Fernandez scored the decisive goal, heading in a pinpoint cross from Dujon Sterling to secure all three points. The result sets up a crucial clash on Sunday, with Rangers travelling to face William Hill Premiership leaders Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle.

Despite sitting nine points behind Hearts, Röhl’s side have a game in hand and could significantly reduce the gap with a win in the capital. However, the Rangers boss insisted his focus remains on steady progress rather than title talk.

“If we make the next small step, it’s just about the three points in this game,” Röhl said. “It’s not about winning something, it’s about the next step. Let’s see. Let’s make a good game and put in all the effort again.

“This is a team who will give everything. The atmosphere, everybody knows what it’s like there. We just need to continue in the same way — that’s why we’ve taken so many points over the last eight games.”

Kick-off at Tynecastle on Sunday is scheduled for 1:30pm. Speaking to BBC Sportsound after the win over Hibs, Röhl was again cautious when asked whether a victory against Hearts would put Rangers firmly back in the title picture.
