Rangers are continuing to overhaul their backroom staff following a disappointing summer transfer window.
After the dismissal of manager Russell Martin in October, the club also parted ways with sporting director Kevin Thelwell and chief executive Patrick Stewart.
The latest addition to the setup is former Liverpool left-back Stig Inge Bjornebye, who has joined Rangers as a football consultant and advisor ahead of the busy January transfer window.
Bjornebye has signed a six-month contract and will report directly to chairman Andrew Cavenagh. However, concerns have been raised about the appointment. Analyst Keith Jackson warned that the decision might be influenced by Gretar Steinsson and urged caution. “I could be completely off here, but my worry is this might be another Steinsson-backed move. If I were Cavenagh, I’d be careful about whose advice I follow when making appointments,” Jackson said.
Bjornebye will work alongside Danny Rohl to identify potential signings, though Cavenagh retains the final say on any deals. Speaking on Daily Record Hotline Live, Jackson reiterated his doubts, suggesting that Steinsson could be playing a significant behind-the-scenes role.
Rangers are reportedly targeting Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, a highly rated Norway Under-21 international who has been nominated for the Eliteserien Young Player of the Year. Rohl is keen to strengthen his midfield options, and the 20-year-old could be a shrewd addition to the squad.
