Rangers were left feeling aggrieved at Tynecastle after Bojan Miovski saw an early goal ruled out for offside during their 2–1 defeat to Hearts.
Former Hibernian striker Tam McManus believes the Ibrox side were unfortunate, questioning whether VAR had sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision.
The controversial moment came before Hearts went on to secure victory, extending their lead at the top of the Premiership to 12 points and ending Danny Rohl’s unbeaten league run.
Lawrence Shankland and Stuart Findlay were on target for the hosts, while Youssef Chermiti grabbed a late consolation for Rangers. The win marked Hearts’ fourth triumph of the season against both Rangers and Celtic.
The pivotal incident occurred early on when Miovski converted at the back post, tapping home after Emmanuel Fernandez headed the ball across goal.
Referee Nick Walsh initially awarded the goal, and Rangers began celebrating before VAR officials, led by Grant Irvine, reviewed the footage and ruled it out for offside.
That decision proved crucial, as Hearts responded strongly and went on to dominate large spells of the match, eventually seeing off the Glasgow side.
Speaking on PLZ, McManus argued the call was far from clear-cut. He felt the margins were extremely fine and suggested the available camera angles did not conclusively show Miovski to be offside.
McManus said Rangers started the game well and believed the disallowed goal was the defining moment. He questioned whether VAR should have intervened at all, adding that without definitive angles, the decision should have stood.
While he acknowledged Hearts grew into the game and were worthy winners, he maintained that the offside call significantly altered the contest.
