With the January transfer window just days away, Rangers could be set for a busy period as Danny Rohl prepares to strengthen his squad for the first time since taking charge.
One of the early names linked with a return to Ibrox is former Rangers attacker Josh Windass, who is currently playing for Wrexham. Reports suggest the club have already had a loan proposal rejected for the 31-year-old, leaving uncertainty over whether they will make another attempt. Windass has recorded six goals and three assists in the Championship this season and has scored 19 league goals since the beginning of last campaign, making him an attractive short-term option.
However, Rangers’ transfer plans appear to extend beyond attacking reinforcements. According to Sky Sports, the club are monitoring Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens ahead of a possible January move. The report claims the Gers are actively tracking the 22-year-old defender as they look to strengthen their backline for the second half of the season.
While Windass could offer an immediate boost in terms of goals and experience, Rangers sit 12 points off the pace in the Premiership title race, which raises questions over the value of short-term loan deals. In contrast, Rommens represents a longer-term solution in an area of the squad that has caused problems throughout the season.
Left-back has been a particular concern, with teenage loanee Jayden Meghoma currently the only natural option available. This has forced Max Aarons to fill in out of position at times. With Meghoma due to return to Brentford in the summer, signing Rommens on a permanent basis would give Rangers a dedicated left-back and provide stability moving forward.
Rommens, who attracted interest from Lecce and Hoffenheim during the summer, is viewed as a player with significant upside. At just 22, he could arrive with the potential to become Rohl’s first-choice left-back for years to come, helping Rangers build a squad capable of mounting a stronger title challenge next season and beyond.
The Belgian has impressed in the Pro League this term, with scout Elijah Michiels noting that he continues to improve. That form suggests he would not only be a long-term investment but also an immediate upgrade, making him a more valuable signing than a short-term move for Windass.
