A Rangers midfielder is attracting interest from overseas, but the club’s valuation could prove a major stumbling block.
Nico Raskin has once again been linked with a move abroad after remaining at Ibrox following summer speculation. The Belgian has continued to play an important role under new head coach Danny Röhl, but reports now suggest Turkish giants Beşiktaş are monitoring him as they look to strengthen their midfield.
However, Rangers have no intention of letting one of their most valuable assets leave cheaply. The club are believed to have placed an eight-figure price tag on Raskin, a figure that could make any deal difficult to complete. With Beşiktaş also considering alternative targets, raising the required funds may prove challenging despite their interest.
According to Turkish outlet Sabah, Beşiktaş are seeking a midfielder capable of operating as either a number six or eight. Raskin is among several names on their shortlist, alongside Lorient’s Arthur Avom and Borussia Dortmund’s Salih Özcan. The report claims Raskin’s €15 million (£13m) valuation makes him a particularly hard signing to pull off.
Speaking ahead of Rangers’ Premiership clash with Motherwell, Röhl underlined the importance of development and clarity for his players, referencing a recent in-depth conversation with Raskin.
He explained that players need to understand the direction the team is heading and what is expected of them individually. Röhl revealed he recently held a lengthy one-to-one discussion with the midfielder and said he is confident Raskin understands the project and what the coaching staff are trying to build.
