Breaking: Hull City could sanction January exit for underperforming summer signing

Brandon Williams only arrived at Hull City in the summer, but after just five minutes of senior action, a January exit could already be on the cards.

According to a report from Hull Live, the Tigers may be prepared to sanction a loan move for Williams during the winter transfer window. Hull City face a challenging January due to ongoing EFL restrictions, which prevent them from paying transfer fees and require any deals to be approved by the league.

Despite those limitations, the club worked creatively in the summer to strengthen the squad and will be hoping to repeat that approach in what is traditionally a difficult window. To create space for potential arrivals, departures may be necessary. David Akintola has already been linked with a move away, and journalist Alan Nixon has now claimed that Williams could also be allowed to leave.

Writing on his Patreon, Nixon said Hull City could approve a temporary move for the full-back to free up room in the squad. Williams is currently on a short-term deal that runs until the end of the season, though the club do hold an option to extend his contract by a further 12 months.

The move would follow a difficult period in the defender’s career. Williams had been without a club for over a year before joining Hull, having been released by Manchester United in 2024 after a loan spell with Ipswich Town.

At Hull City, competition for places has been fierce. Full-backs play a key role in Sergej Jakirovic’s system, with Ryan Giles rediscovering his attacking influence on the left and captain Lewie Coyle providing consistent performances on the right, including four assists so far this season.

With other options firmly established, Williams may benefit from regular football elsewhere should a January loan be agreed.
