Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed the club will assess whether to recall Conor Chaplin from his loan spell at Portsmouth following Sunday’s meeting between the two sides.
With Pompey hosting the Tractor Boys at Fratton Park this weekend, Chaplin will be unavailable due to rules preventing loan players from facing their parent club. The attacking midfielder returned to Portsmouth late in the summer window and has since become a regular under John Mousinho.
Chaplin has featured 19 times in the Championship this season, making 14 starts and registering one assist since rejoining the club where he began his professional career.
Ipswich retain the option to bring the former Sunderland man back during the January transfer window, and McKenna confirmed that loan players will be considered as part of wider squad discussions once the busy festive schedule concludes.
Ipswich currently sit second in the Championship after beating Oxford United, holding a one-point advantage over third-placed Middlesbrough as they push for automatic promotion.
