Southampton have scheduled a medical for a “fantastic” goalkeeper who has already proven himself at Champions League level, as the Saints look to revive their faltering play-off bid.
Tonda Eckert was handed the managerial role permanently in December after an impressive interim spell, but momentum has since stalled.
Southampton are now winless in six Championship matches and were thrashed 4-0 by Middlesbrough in their most recent outing.
That run has left the Saints 15th in the table, eight points off the play-off places, increasing pressure on the club to strengthen during the January window. While Eckert has ruled out sweeping changes, he has acknowledged that the right addition could still be made.
Goalkeeper remains a key concern following another error-strewn display from Gavin Bazunu, and Southampton are now closing in on Bayern Munich stopper Daniel Peretz. Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reports that Peretz is due to travel imminently, with a medical booked ahead of a loan move.
The deal will reportedly cost Southampton €400,000, with an option to buy set at €8m in the summer.
