Michael Stewart reveals inside information on Rangers’ move for James Penrice

Michael Stewart appears to have inside information regarding Rangers’ reported interest in AEK Athens defender James Penrice.

Scottish Football Social Club host Darrell Currie suggested the former Scotland international is aware of behind-the-scenes developments surrounding the potential move. Rangers are understood to be monitoring Penrice as they look to strengthen their defensive options, particularly at left-back, during the January transfer window.

However, Stewart played down the likelihood of a deal being completed. When asked about the possibility of Penrice joining the Light Blues, the ex-midfielder admitted he would be surprised if the move materialised.

Speaking on the show on 5 January, Stewart said: “I’d be surprised if that happens,” with Currie adding: “I know he’s got some intel, so maybe that says it all.”

With Jayden Meghoma currently the only natural left-back available to Danny Rohl, Rangers may now be forced to explore alternative targets.
