Celtic have once again altered course on the touchline during what has been a turbulent and unpredictable season, but the reigning Scottish Premiership champions are still pressing ahead with plans to strengthen their squad.
Martin O’Neill steps in following Wilfried Nancy exit
Wilfried Nancy’s brief spell in charge of Celtic proved hugely disappointing, with the Frenchman departing Parkhead after just eight matches. During that run, he managed only two wins while suffering six defeats, leaving the club reeling both in form and confidence.
Although Nancy introduced an ambitious 3-4-2-1 system and showed flashes of attacking intent, defensive frailties undermined his tenure. Celtic conceded 18 goals across his eight games in charge, frequently struggled for control in midfield and have fallen six points off the pace in the Premiership title race.
In a dramatic turn, Martin O’Neill has now returned to the club, agreeing to take charge until the end of the season. The experienced boss has made it clear his primary focus is delivering results and keeping Celtic firmly in the hunt for silverware while the club takes time to identify a long-term successor.
Speaking after his appointment, O’Neill explained that his role is to steady the ship and allow the board breathing space to plan ahead, while acknowledging that success will ultimately be judged on results.
Following last weekend’s Glasgow derby defeat to Rangers, stability has become a major priority at Parkhead. While tactical shortcomings played a role in recent struggles, Nancy’s exit alone will not solve all of Celtic’s underlying issues.
Even so, despite recruitment chief Paul Tisdale also leaving alongside Nancy, Celtic appear close to adding fresh talent to the squad.
Jocelin Ta Bi closing in on Celtic switch
French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Celtic are on the verge of completing a deal for Ivorian winger Jocelin Ta Bi. The 20-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Hoops.
It is understood that Celtic’s medical staff have travelled to Israel to carry out the necessary checks ahead of Ta Bi’s proposed move from Maccabi Netanya. The transfer is believed to be worth around £2.5 million.
Currently on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva, Ta Bi has caught the eye this season, contributing two goals and two assists in 12 appearances, and now looks set to take the next step in his career at Parkhead.
