Celtic have increasingly shown a willingness to turn back to familiar faces in the dugout.
In recent years, Neil Lennon, Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill have all been handed opportunities to return. The appointment of Wilfried Nancy marked a rare break from that trend, but it quickly unravelled after six defeats in eight matches.
Ange Postecoglou return latest
Postecoglou has endured a turbulent spell since leaving Celtic for Tottenham in 2023. He guided Spurs to a fifth-place Premier League finish in his debut season and remarkably lifted the Europa League in his second campaign, despite being dismissed shortly afterwards.
That decision saw O’Neill reinstalled on an interim basis for the second time this season, though his long-term future remains uncertain.
Attention has now turned to potential permanent options, with Postecoglou once again being discussed. He was briefly tempted by a return to management with Nottingham Forest, but after a disastrous start similar to Nancy’s, he was dismissed after just eight games.
With Postecoglou currently available, Celtic may view him as a natural candidate. Speaking on talkSPORT, Ben Jacobs believes the Australian would be an obvious option.
“Ange Postecoglou would probably be the standout choice and an easy appointment to win the fans back,” Jacobs said.
However, he added that circumstances would need to change, particularly financially.
“Before Nancy, Postecoglou was considered, but he wasn’t overly keen on returning at that time. Wage is another factor. He understands Premier League money isn’t on the table right now, so he may have to compromise.”
