Deal done? Hull City edge closer to first January signing

Hull City are on the verge of completing their first signing of the January transfer window, with goalkeeper Seny Dieng set to join the Tigers on a permanent deal.

The 31-year-old is understood to have agreed an initial 18-month contract at the MKM Stadium after Hull negotiated his release from Championship promotion rivals Middlesbrough.

The move is expected to be finalised within the next few days and ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup third-round clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Hull Live reports that the EFL has already approved the transfer, meaning City will not need to offload any players to register the Swiss-born former Senegal international.

Dieng has not featured for Middlesbrough since December 2024, making 52 appearances in total for the club.

Previously, Dieng enjoyed a long spell at QPR, where he played 121 matches and kept 30 clean sheets across 168 Championship appearances overall. He lost his place at Boro to Sol Brynn before suffering an Achilles injury, which prevented a move last summer. Middlesbrough have now sanctioned his exit as they look to trim their squad.

Dieng’s arrival will add competition for current first-choice goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, though Hull are not planning to move the Croatian on before the window closes.
