Rangers are on the brink of completing a deal for Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, with the player travelling from Spain to Scotland to undergo a medical at Ibrox.
According to Krone, Chukwuani has departed Sturm Graz’s training camp in Marbella as negotiations with Rangers near completion. The report states that the midfielder is already en route to Glasgow ahead of sealing his move to Danny Röhl’s side.
Chukwuani had only arrived in Marbella on Wednesday and had been training with the Austrian club, but he was notably absent from Thursday afternoon’s 2-2 draw with Club Brugge. That omission was later attributed to ongoing talks with Rangers. He was then missing again from training on Friday morning.
By that time, the midfielder was already heading to Scotland. He is set to complete a medical, which represents the final step in a transfer expected to be worth between €4m and €5m.
If finalised, Chukwuani will become Danny Röhl’s first signing of the January transfer window. A fee at the upper end of that range would also make him Rangers’ second-most expensive acquisition this season, behind the €8.6m paid to Everton for Youssef Chermiti last summer.
