Southampton FC are among the clubs interested in signing winger Morgan Guilavogui from Ligue 1 side Lens during the January transfer window.
According to German outlet Bild, the Saints face competition from his former club St Pauli, as they seek reinforcements for Tonda Eckert’s squad. Southampton, currently 15th in the Championship and eight points outside the play-offs, have until 2 February to complete any moves that could improve their top-six chances.
Guilavogui, 27, has made 15 Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring once, and recently returned from the Africa Cup of Nations. He spent last season on loan in Germany, contributing six goals and two assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances.
Lens are reportedly holding firm on a €4 million (£3.5m) asking price, and Southampton have already had an initial offer rejected. The Guinea international can play both as a striker and on the wing, providing attacking depth and competition for the Saints, especially after Damion Downs was removed from the squad earlier this month.
Given his age and the price tag, a loan deal could be a more viable option for Southampton if they wish to strengthen their squad without overcommitting financially.
Southampton’s next game is at home against seventh-placed Hull City on 17 January.
