Ronnie Edwards issues goodbye message to Southampton following QPR transfer

Ronnie Edwards has completed a permanent January move away from Southampton, rejoining Queens Park Rangers after a successful loan spell last season.

Following his departure, the defender issued a message thanking Saints supporters for their backing during his time at St Mary’s.

Southampton faced a major rebuild after narrowly avoiding Derby County’s record-low Premier League points tally last season.

Despite a busy summer of recruitment under Will Still, managerial instability soon followed, with the former Reims boss replaced by under-21s coach Tonda Eckert.

While Still regularly alternated between defensive systems, Eckert has committed to a back three, limiting Edwards’ opportunities.

With competition from players such as Jack Stephens, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Joshua Quarshie, and Nathan Wood, Edwards struggled for consistent minutes, ultimately sealing a £4.5 million switch to QPR.

The 21-year-old had impressed during his loan spell in West London, making 21 appearances and establishing himself as a fan favourite.

After completing his permanent return, Edwards thanked Southampton fans, wished the club well, and hinted that their paths may cross again—something that could happen when QPR visit St Mary’s in February.
