Celtic have reportedly shown interest in NK Celje striker Franko Kovačević, according to journalist Mark Hendry.
The Hoops are believed to have contacted the Slovenian club to explore the terms of a possible transfer.
The 24-year-old has been in prolific form this season, scoring 11 goals in 14 league appearances while adding two assists.
Kovačević has also impressed on the European stage, finding the net five times in the UEFA Conference League group phase, three times during qualifying, and a further four goals in Europa League qualifiers. Celtic scouts are understood to have followed his progress closely in Slovenia’s Prva Liga.
Valued at around £2.5 million, Celje are keen to keep hold of their striker but are preparing for incoming offers. Ferencváros are said to have already lodged a bid, while Ujpest and Levski Sofia are also keeping tabs on the situation. With interest building, Celtic may need to act quickly to avoid missing out.
Martin O’Neill remains keen to bolster his attacking options this January, with the search for a striker viewed as a top priority.
