Hugh Keevins sounds alarm over Rangers as Danny Rohl’s exit plans hit snag

Rangers supporters were given another look at several fringe figures on Friday night as Joe Rothwell, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo featured against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

Bojan Miovski stole the headlines with a hat-trick as Wullie Gibson’s side were comfortably swept aside 5-0 at Ibrox on January 16.

Dowell, who has recently been linked with a move to Leicester City, also found the net after starting in central midfield alongside Rothwell against the League Two visitors.

High wages complicating Rangers exits

Hugh Keevins believes Rangers are struggling to move players on this month due to the size of their wage commitments. While the club have impressed with arrivals such as Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen, outgoings have been far harder to come by — something that is beginning to worry sections of the support.

The experienced columnist argues that several squad players are unlikely to leave Ibrox unless rival clubs are willing to match their current salaries.

Rothwell, Dowell and Matondo are all understood to be on the list of players Rangers would consider selling or loaning out before the window closes, but whether suitable offers arrive remains to be seen.
