Rangers supporters are eagerly anticipating Andreas Skov Olsen’s first appearance in a Light Blues shirt after his arrival at Ibrox earlier this month.
The Danish international was unveiled to the crowd ahead of Rangers’ emphatic 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Annan Athletic on Friday night. Introduced alongside fellow January recruits Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens, Skov Olsen received a huge ovation from the Ibrox faithful.
The 26-year-old is expected to make his Rangers debut on January 25 when Dundee visit Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
Skov Olsen joined the Gers on loan from VfL Wolfsburg until the end of the season, but the move could extend well beyond the summer. Rangers have secured an option to make the deal permanent for £9million, and the winger has already made his feelings clear.
Speaking to RangersTV on January 17, Skov Olsen replied with a confident “definitely” when asked whether he hoped to stay at Ibrox beyond his loan spell.
“This is the biggest club here in Scotland,” he said. “When I heard the interest from Rangers, I just really wanted to come, and I’m super happy that it’s finally done and I’m here.
“I believe I have much more to give and to develop more and become a better player every day. So yeah, definitely.”
Skov Olsen arrived in Germany from Club Brugge for £12m in January 2025 but struggled to find consistency at Wolfsburg. Now in Govan, he will be hoping to rediscover the form that made him one of Belgium’s standout performers. A naturally left-footed right winger, he appears tailor-made for Rangers’ system and could quickly become a key figure in Danny Röhl’s starting XI.
Ahead of completing the move, Skov Olsen sought advice from several familiar faces, including former Rangers icon Brian Laudrup, as well as Vaclav Černý and Oliver Antman.
Laudrup, a legendary figure at Ibrox between 1994 and 1998, helped Skov Olsen understand the scale of the club and the expectations that come with wearing the Rangers shirt. The new number seven admitted those conversations played an important role in his decision.
“He told me about his time here, the club, the city, the people and how great everything was,” Skov Olsen explained. “He also gave me advice about playing for Rangers and living in the city.
“It was just a really good conversation about football and life. To emulate him even a little bit would be very nice.”
