Rangers have shown interest in Sheffield Wednesday left-back Max Lowe during the January transfer window, according to The Star.
The Ibrox club are understood to have made an early enquiry for the 28-year-old, although a deal is not currently considered likely. Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has indicated he would prefer to keep Lowe, despite the possibility of the defender reuniting with former Owls manager Danny Rohl in Scotland.
Lowe joined the Hillsborough side in July 2024, just ahead of Rohl’s second season in charge, and has gone on to make 58 appearances for the club, including 21 this term.
Rangers make enquiry for Max Lowe
The Star reports that Sheffield Wednesday are not under pressure to sell players this month, even after entering administration in October.
However, the Championship side could risk losing Lowe for nothing in the summer, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season and no extension clause in place.
Described as “outstanding”, Lowe has started 20 league matches this campaign but is currently sidelined through injury, having missed the last five fixtures.
A move to Rangers would mark a return to Scottish football for the left-back after seven years.
He previously spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Aberdeen from Derby County, making 28 Premiership appearances and helping the Dons reach the Scottish League Cup final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Celtic.
Rangers had been actively searching for a left-back earlier this month before completing the £3 million signing of Tuur Rommens from Belgian side Westerlo, which may reduce the urgency of any further defensive additions.
Dan Neil deal proves difficult
Elsewhere, Rangers have reportedly encountered a setback in their pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.
The Ibrox side are believed to have made an enquiry for the 24-year-old but have been informed that any January move would need to be a permanent transfer.
Sunderland have already filled their international loan allocation, meaning a loan deal is not an option.
Neil, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is also attracting interest from Bundesliga side Köln and Premier League club West Ham, who have tracked him for some time.
