Celtic learn Tawanda Maswanhise asking price as Motherwell insider reveals transfer stance amid Martin O’Neill striker leak

Martin O’Neill was in attendance at Fir Park last weekend as Tawanda Maswanhise continued his prolific season by scoring against Ross County.

Andy Halliday has since claimed Celtic would need to pay around £3million to prise his Motherwell teammate away during the January window.

The Fir Park midfielder revealed he has already spoken to O’Neill about the type of player Maswanhise is, with the Celtic boss openly admitting he is monitoring options within the Scottish market as he looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

While Motherwell head coach Jens Berthel Askou has stressed the club’s determination to keep hold of the Zimbabwe international, Halliday believes interest is inevitable given his form.

Speaking on Open Goal, Halliday admitted he hopes Maswanhise remains at Fir Park, but conceded that a player with 15 goals in all competitions by January will always attract attention.

Former Motherwell striker Tony Watt also backed Maswanhise’s credentials, suggesting he would be capable of stepping up at Celtic given their current attacking needs.

Halliday went on to outline Motherwell’s likely valuation, insisting a fee of at least £3million would be required.

He also highlighted Maswanhise’s versatility, explaining that he can operate both out wide and through the middle — a valuable trait given Celtic’s limited recognised striker options.
