Celtic on brink of £5m-plus signing with medical booked before transfer deadline

Celtic Close in on Long-Awaited Striker Signing as Medical Is Booked

Celtic are now expected to confirm the arrival of a long-awaited attacking reinforcement, with reports suggesting a medical has already been scheduled and the transfer agreed.

After a frustrating three weeks in the January window, the Bhoys could finally welcome a new forward in time for this weekend’s crucial Scottish Premiership clash with Hearts. A win against the surprise league leaders would move Martin O’Neill’s side to within three points of the summit and ignite the title race.

Before that, Celtic face a daunting Europa League trip to Bologna, as they look to restore pride following a disappointing European campaign. Off the pitch, attention remains firmly on recruitment, with the Hoops having missed out on targets such as Jocelin Ta Bi, while a move for Callum Wilson never appeared realistic.

Recent days have seen speculation intensify, with Girona winger Yaser Asprilla also linked amid his lack of game time in Spain. However, it is Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara who now appears closest to joining.

According to reports in Germany, relayed by Sport Witness, Celtic are on the verge of confirming a deal for Cvancara, with an announcement expected imminently. The 25-year-old is set to arrive on loan, with the agreement including a purchase option of around €8m (£7m).

Cvancara Could Be the Answer to Celtic’s Striking Concerns

Celtic have been forced to wait, but Cvancara could finally provide a solution to their goalscoring issues. While his spell in Germany has been underwhelming, his previous form at Sparta Prague offers encouragement. During his time there, he registered 31 goal contributions in just 49 appearances, establishing himself as one of the most exciting forwards in the Czech league.

Standing at 6ft 2in, Cvancara would also give Celtic a physical presence up front that has been missing this season, potentially adding a new dimension to O’Neill’s attack.

However, the deal is not without risk. The striker has struggled for goals this campaign, and Celtic are banking on him rediscovering the form that made him such a standout in Prague.

If he does, the £7m buy option could prove excellent value. If not, the Hoops may reflect on a January window that left little room for error.
