Rangers have set their sights on Sheffield Wednesday’s Yan Valery as the winter transfer window enters its final 11 days.
The Light Blues have already been active in January, completing the signings of Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens, and Andreas Skov Olsen.
But to bolster their push for the Scottish Premiership title, Rangers are reportedly prepared to invest further in incoming talent, with two Sheffield Wednesday defenders among their targets.
Rangers manager Rohl’s past success at Sheffield Wednesday has made it no surprise that several former Wednesday players are now linked with moves to Ibrox. Valery, a former Southampton defender, is the latest to attract attention, with a bid reportedly ready. Rohl has already reunited with Djeidi Gassama at Rangers, and reports suggest he is keen to do the same with Valery.
The Tunisia international, who has been deployed in multiple positions throughout his career, has recently returned from AFCON duty and has played full matches in both of Sheffield Wednesday’s games since. This has led to speculation about James Tavernier’s long-term future at Rangers.
Tavernier, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been a mainstay in the squad under Rohl, even following the return of Dujon Sterling.
At 26, Valery offers a younger alternative and a long-term replacement, and Rohl is well-acquainted with his qualities from his time at Hillsborough.
Valery was a consistent performer under Rohl in the Championship, often standing out in a side that sometimes struggled for quality. Whether Rangers’ bid will be successful remains uncertain, but updates are expected in the coming days.
