Willie Collum to request clarification following VAR error in Rangers v Dundee FC

Rangers’ meeting with Dundee FC was disrupted before kick-off due to technical problems with VAR. The Ibrox side eventually ran out 3-0 winners on Sunday, with James Tavernier converting from the spot and late goals from Danilo and Djeidi Gassama wrapping up the victory.

With Celtic and Hearts drawing earlier in the day, the result was vital for Rangers in the title race. However, controversy surrounded the match from the outset, as VAR issues delayed kick-off by six minutes.

Officials were unable to communicate properly through the VAR system, forcing a delay as Celtic had already taken an early lead against Hearts. Former referee Keith Hackett believes head of referees Willie Collum will demand answers from the technology providers.

Speaking to Ibrox News, Hackett criticised the situation, insisting all systems should be fully operational well before kick-off.

VAR issues didn’t end there. The game began without the system in use, before it came online shortly after Rangers scored. Tochi Chukwuani briefly celebrated what he thought was his first goal for the club, only for it to be ruled out for offside after a lengthy review.

Despite the correct decision being reached, the extended delay added to growing frustration around VAR, which has faced heavy criticism in the Scottish Premiership this season.
