Rangers player en route for medical ahead of swift transfer

Rangers boss Danny Röhl appears set to lose Danilo before the winter transfer window closes, with NEC Nijmegen moving quickly to secure the striker’s return to the Netherlands.

Reports from Dutch media had already suggested the Eredivisie side were targeting the Brazilian, and negotiations now seem to have gathered real momentum.

De Gelderlander recently noted NEC’s desire to strengthen their squad ahead of Monday’s deadline, listing Danilo and Birmingham City’s Willum Willumsson among their priority options. While talks were initially described as complicated, that situation now seems to have shifted.

According to Voetbal International, NEC have made a major breakthrough in their pursuit of the Rangers forward.

The 26-year-old, who previously came through Ajax’s academy and played for FC Twente and Feyenoord before his 2023 move to Ibrox, is set to depart Scotland on a loan deal that includes an option to buy. The exact fee has not been disclosed.

The report states Danilo is already travelling to the Netherlands to undergo a medical and finalise the transfer.

Provided there are no late issues, the deal is expected to be completed within the next few hours or by the weekend at the latest.

Danilo has recorded four goals and two assists in 28 appearances for Rangers this season.
