Celtic board ready to grant Martin O’Neill’s transfer request with Rak-Sakyi move timeline revealed

Celtic are stepping up their efforts to add reinforcements as the transfer deadline approaches fast. Martin O’Neill is said to have asked the club to bring in a player with a similar profile to Fares Ghedjemis before the window shuts.

Former Hoops defender Darren O’Dea shared that view amid growing talk the French attacker could swap Serie B leaders Frosinone for Celtic Park.

Discussions are believed to be ongoing, with the Italian side already preparing for his potential departure and identifying replacements.

Ghedjemis has impressed this season, netting eight goals in 21 outings, and fits the type of winger O’Neill reportedly wants — a left-footed player operating from the right flank. Speaking on Go Radio, O’Dea explained that Celtic are specifically targeting that mould of winger, adding that Ghedjemis is highly rated for his one-on-one ability.

He noted the 23-year-old’s performances in Serie B have led many to believe he is capable of playing at Serie A level, highlighting both his potential and room for growth. O’Dea suggested he would be a strong addition if Celtic can complete the deal.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Crystal Palace has also re-emerged as a target. O’Dea, who encountered the winger while coaching at Swansea, believes the situation around the player could go down to the wire.

He hinted that Rak-Sakyi’s representatives may be exploring multiple options, predicting any move could materialise very late in the window — possibly right before the deadline. He referenced the player’s previous drawn-out transfer and limited game time on loan as signs negotiations may again stretch out.

Meanwhile, Celtic are reportedly considering Damir Redzic, with the DAC Dunajská Streda forward also linked with Rangers.

The Hungarian international recently confirmed interest from several clubs but stressed that any move depends on agreements between teams. For now, he says his focus remains on staying sharp and helping his current side ahead of the league’s February restart.
