Rangers eager to secure £15m Southampton forward

Rangers are showing interest in Southampton striker Cameron Archer, as reported by Sky Sports News journalist Mark McAdam.

The Ibrox club are believed to be keen on strengthening Danny Rohl’s attacking department with the 23-year-old, who has found game time limited at St Mary’s this campaign. Archer made the switch from Aston Villa to Southampton in a £15 million deal in 2024 but has started only six Championship matches so far, scoring two goals.

Rangers are also said to be monitoring Leeds United forward Joel Piroe, with the club preparing for a busy conclusion to the January transfer window and assessing multiple attacking options.

Late push for Archer

McAdam indicates that both Archer and Piroe are on Rangers’ radar ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline as the club looks to add more firepower to Rohl’s squad. So far this month, Rangers have brought in left-back Tuur Rommens, midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and attacker Andreas Skov Olsen.

Rohl has suggested further additions are possible before the February 2 cutoff, with his team bracing for what could become a three-way contest for the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers may soon need extra cover up front, with Danilo reportedly close to departing before the window shuts.

The Brazilian striker is linked with a loan move to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, and the arrangement is not expected to include either a purchase option or obligation.

The Glasgow side head into the final stretch of the window in strong form, having won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions and trimming the gap to league leaders Hearts to four points.
