Wrexham’s recruitment drive among Championship rivals shows no sign of slowing ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, with a seven-figure agreement now in place to strengthen their defence.
The Red Dragons have hit a rich vein of form, winning five of their last seven league games to surge into the top six as they chase a remarkable fourth straight promotion — a journey that could take them from the National League to the Premier League in record time.
Phil Parkinson has received significant backing, bringing proven Championship experience to North Wales.
Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City have already seen key players depart for Wrexham, with Kieffer Moore, Nathan Broadhead, Dom Hyam and Ben Sheaf among those recruited. Bristol City now look set to become the next club to lose a key asset.
According to Rudy Galetti, Wrexham have agreed a £1.5 million deal to sign long-serving Bristol City defender Zak Vyner.
The 28-year-old centre-back, whose contract runs until summer 2026, has yet to commit to a new deal, prompting the Robins to cash in.
A product of the Ashton Gate academy since age seven, Vyner made his senior debut in 2016 and has accumulated more than 250 appearances, alongside loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United and Aberdeen.
His departure before the February 2 deadline would strengthen a fellow play-off contender, while raising questions over Bristol City’s defensive planning.
Despite already boasting options such as Max Cleworth, Dom Hyam and Callum Doyle — with Dan Scarr and Lewis Brunt also available — Vyner would represent another statement addition for Wrexham.
