A Leeds United striker linked with a move to Rangers has reportedly made his stance clear as the January transfer window enters its final days.
Joel Piroe, who joined Leeds from Swansea City in a £12 million deal in 2023, has been mentioned as a potential option for the Ibrox side as Danny Rohl looks to further strengthen his squad. Rangers have already brought in Andreas Skov Olsen this month but remain keen to add more attacking options before the deadline.
However, reports suggest Rangers may have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of the Dutch forward. Despite the shared ownership links between Leeds and Rangers through 49ers Enterprises, that connection does not appear to have paved the way for a deal.
Piroe, a former PSV academy product capped by the Netherlands at youth level, built his reputation at Swansea, scoring 33 goals in 97 appearances before earning his move to Elland Road. Yet it’s claimed the striker has turned down opportunities to leave Leeds this window — with Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough also said to have seen approaches rejected by the player.
Leeds are reportedly open to reshaping their attack, with Wolves striker Jørgen Strand Larsen named as a potential replacement target. Even so, Piroe’s reluctance to move could complicate any outgoing business.
With time running down, Rangers may now be forced to look elsewhere, although late twists are always possible at this stage of the window. Piroe had also been loosely linked with Celtic earlier in January, but those rumours were quickly dismissed amid sensitivities around strengthening direct rivals.
