Rangers set to land striker after breakthrough in weekend discussions

Rangers have agreed a verbal deal to sign Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock, though there is an important condition attached.

The 22-year-old has been high on Rangers’ list of targets as Danny Rohl looks to strengthen his attacking options.

Rostock previously turned down an offer from the Ibrox side worth more than £3 million, even though it matched their valuation. However, according to Chris Jack of the Rangers Review, the two clubs have now reached an agreement.

Despite that progress, Naderi will not be joining Rangers immediately. Instead, the striker is set to remain with Rostock for the rest of the 2025-26 season and will move to Glasgow in the summer transfer window.

Rostock were determined to keep him until the end of the campaign, and Rangers appear to have accepted that compromise. Discussions between the clubs reportedly took place over the weekend, with the structure of the deal now settled.

The same report notes Rangers are still pursuing Southampton forward Cameron Archer, although that situation remains complex with several factors still to be resolved.

Landing both Naderi and Archer would be an ideal outcome. Naderi represents a longer-term addition, while Archer could provide an immediate boost.

Naderi’s numbers suggest he is particularly active and effective in attacking areas, but it is worth noting he has been playing in Germany’s third tier rather than England’s Championship.

If both deals were completed, the two forwards could offer different qualities and give Rohl greater flexibility in attack. Recent results, including the draw with Hibernian, underline Rangers’ need for more firepower.
