Jens Hjerto-Dahl’s potential move to Rangers this summer is far from guaranteed.
The Tromsø midfielder was linked with a switch to Ibrox during the winter transfer window, but no deal materialised. Instead, Rangers strengthened their midfield by signing Sturm Graz’s Tochi Chukwuani, and talk of Hjerto-Dahl quietened.
Although Rangers remain focused on ending their wait for a Scottish Premiership title, speculation has suggested they are already planning ahead for the summer window. The 20-year-old Norway Under-21 international had been mentioned as a target, but that interest may not be as advanced as first thought.
Doubts over Hjerto-Dahl deal
Reports earlier this week claimed Rangers were lining up a summer move for Hjerto-Dahl and had even settled on personal terms. However, Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack has indicated there is no agreement in place between the clubs.
According to Jack, no formal bid has been submitted, though the 6ft 4in midfielder remains a player being monitored by Danny Röhl’s side. He is described as not being a leading candidate for a move to Ibrox, with the arrival of Chukwuani reducing the need for another central midfielder. Rangers initially identified Hjerto-Dahl as a prospect last summer, but a transfer does not appear close.
Title hopes hinge on improvement
Rangers’ focus, for now, remains on the title race. A recent six-match winning streak was halted by a goalless draw with Hibernian, a game in which the Edinburgh side arguably had the better chances. Rangers struggled to create clear openings and lacked a cutting edge.
They have scored fewer goals than leaders Hearts, second-placed Celtic, and even Hibs, which could be a concern in a tight title battle. While goals alone don’t guarantee success, they are often crucial to lifting silverware — something Hearts have shown this season.
The club did add striker Ryan Naderi on deadline day, and supporters will hope he can provide the firepower needed in the run-in. Still, Röhl will require both his new recruits and established players to raise their levels if Rangers are to close the six-point gap to Hearts.
