Rangers confirm loan exit for goalkeeper after Ibrox recall

Rangers are continuing to oversee outgoing business despite the winter transfer window having closed, with domestic loan deals still permitted in Scotland until the end of February.

While Danny Rohl is unlikely to add further reinforcements after bringing in four first-team signings — including deadline-day arrival Ryan Naderi — movement is still taking place involving younger members of the squad.

Several academy prospects have already headed out on temporary spells this season, including Clinton Nsiala, Findlay Curtis, Callum Adamson and Lewis Stewart. Goalkeeper Mason Munn is the latest to see his situation change.

Munn initially joined Dunfermline Athletic on loan in October but was recalled by Rangers on Friday after falling out of the starting role under Neil Lennon, with his last appearance coming in late October. The club has now confirmed the young stopper has joined League Two side Forfar Athletic on loan for the remainder of the season.

Munn is highly rated within the Rangers setup and is viewed as a long-term option at Ibrox, potentially even as a future successor to Jack Butland. However, consistent minutes are the immediate priority — something his move to Forfar is expected to provide.

Forfar manager Jim Weir currently has just one senior goalkeeper available, 32-year-old Marc McCallum, following Neil Stafford’s return to Hamilton in January.

That leaves Munn in a strong position to compete quickly for the number one shirt.

Having already gained Championship experience earlier this season, the Rangers loanee arrives with a level of exposure that could give him the edge.

Forfar sit sixth in League Two, just five points off the play-off spots, meaning Munn joins a side still pushing for a promotion charge in the second half of the campaign.
