Rangers’ extreme intensity shocked paraag marathe as he reveals key difference from 49ers role

paraag marathe says working in european football with rangers has brought a “next level intensity” compared to his nfl experience.

the 49ers enterprises executive has been heavily involved at ibrox since the summer takeover alongside andrew cavenagh, but admits the season has been a turbulent one.

early decisions, including the appointment of russell martin and a difficult recruitment period under kevin thelwell, triggered major change. with martin, thelwell and ceo patrick stewart now gone, fortunes have improved under danny rohl as rangers re-enter the title race.

speaking on the men in blazers podcast, marathe explained that promotion and relegation create a pressure unfamiliar in american sport.

he said he had to learn quickly, asking questions despite feeling out of his depth at first. marathe pointed out that in the nfl, struggling teams are rewarded with high draft picks, while in europe poor performance can mean relegation, raising stress to another level.

he also noted the emotional power of supporters, describing club leaders as “stewards” working on behalf of fans, whose passion and sense of ownership make the environment far more intense than in the united states.
