West Brom chairman Shilen Patel has spoken candidly about the club’s struggles and ongoing relegation battle in the 2025/26 season.
The club has endured a difficult campaign, including the sacking of head coach Ryan Mason in January and the departure of club president and sporting director Andrew Nestor following criticism of recruitment and appointment decisions.
As Patel approaches his two-year anniversary as owner at the end of February, he acknowledged that he bears ultimate responsibility for the team’s current situation. New head coach Eric Ramsay is already under pressure to improve results, as Albion sit 22nd with 32 points from 30 games—level with Blackburn and Leicester, while Portsmouth and Norwich have 33 points.
In a swift boardroom change, Mark Miles has returned to West Brom as Executive Director just an hour after Nestor’s exit. Miles, who left his Managing Director role in September, brings 22 years of experience at the club and has previously led Albion through the 2024 takeover by Bilkul Football Group.
Miles said: “I am delighted to be back at the club I love, but there is no time for sentiment. I am here to work and bring stability.
I fully understand the frustration of our supporters and will engage with the Fan Advisory Board and Albion Assembly to address their concerns. When this club is backed into a corner, it knows how to fight.”
Patel added: “Mark’s experience and leadership will be critical as we unite to navigate this challenging period.
As chairman, I am ultimately accountable for our performance, and this season has not met our standards. I am determined to guide the club through this period and ensure optimism for the future. I am deeply grateful to our loyal supporters, and we need that support now more than ever.”
