It has now been officially confirmed how many Celtic fans will attend the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Rangers on Sunday, March 8. The Hoops will be allocated the entire Broomloan Stand at Ibrox, marking the first time since March 2018 that Celtic supporters will have full use of the stand.
Celtic officials had pushed for the maximum allowance under Scottish Football Association rules, which permit away fans to claim up to 20% of a stadium. While securing 10,000 tickets wasn’t realistic, both clubs agreed on a compromise giving the visitors a significant boost.
Away allocations had been limited to around 750 for almost eight years at both Ibrox and Parkhead, although this season has seen a return to higher numbers — 2,500 Rangers fans attended the New Year fixture at Parkhead, while more than 2,000 Celtic supporters are set to attend the Premiership match at Ibrox just a week before the Scottish Cup tie.
For Celtic, the full Broomloan Stand will be a major advantage. Boss Martin O’Neill welcomed the news, saying:
“As a Celtic supporter, you always want as many tickets as possible — the full allocation available under the rules. I think Old Firm fixtures lost something in the past when the full allocation wasn’t given. But now, having fans back and seeing the left side of Ibrox filled with Celtic supporters is always gratifying.”
This move is expected to give the Hoops a strong backing as they prepare for one of the biggest matches in European football.
