Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder insists his focus is solely on winning the Steel City Derby, despite the fact his side could relegate rivals Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Wednesday’s struggles, worsened by their time in administration, have seen them go without a win in the Championship since their September victory at Portsmouth. Meanwhile, United have boosted their play-off push with three wins from five matches, including a strong result against promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town.
Asked about the possibility of sending the Owls down, Wilder dismissed the narrative, stressing that relegating their rivals is not part of his thinking. Instead, he emphasised the difficulty of winning at Championship level and the importance of staying disciplined and focused.
Wilder also rejected suggestions that the game is a foregone conclusion, warning his players against complacency. While acknowledging the derby’s emotional weight, he underlined the need for control and professionalism to secure three crucial points and build momentum in the race for the top six.
