The Scottish Football Association have fined Celtic following the club’s unsuccessful appeal against Auston Trusty’s red card.
Celtic contested the dismissal shown to Auston Trusty during the defeat to Hibernian, but a fast-track tribunal rejected the claim. As a result, the original punishment stands and the defender will serve a three-match suspension in the Scottish Premiership.
In a statement, the SFA confirmed:
“Claim dismissed. Original sanction of a red card for sending off offence A2 – Violent Conduct is re-imposed with immediate effect. Payment of £650 appeal deposit to be made within 30 days.”
While Trusty remains eligible for the upcoming Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox against Rangers, the ban applies to league fixtures only. However, the failed appeal leaves Celtic both short of defensive options and financially penalised during a demanding stretch of the campaign.
Manager Martin O’Neill must now consider alternatives at centre-back. Benjamin Arthur and Dane Murray are potential replacements, though both have seen limited minutes in recent weeks. Arthur featured briefly at the weekend after Celtic were reduced to ten men.
Another possibility could see Kieran Tierney shifted centrally, a role he has filled in the past.
Trusty will miss league matches away to Rangers and Aberdeen, as well as the home fixture against Motherwell, dealing a significant blow during a pivotal period in Celtic’s season.
