Rangers target Swansea City ace with Burnley and Ipswich told to challenge transfer

Swansea star attracting interest as Rangers eye move

Žan Vipotnik could become one of the most sought-after strikers this summer, with Swansea City potentially preparing to cash in on another prolific forward.

The Slovenian striker has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after a modest first season in England, where he scored just seven goals in 42 appearances. This year, however, the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the leading scorers in the Championship. With two years still remaining on his contract, the upcoming transfer window may represent the ideal opportunity for Swansea to sell.

Reports suggest Swansea have placed a £15 million valuation on Vipotnik, with Rangers F.C. reportedly interested in bringing him to Scotland. However, that fee would require Rangers to break the Scottish Premiership transfer record. The current record stands at £12 million, paid by Rangers for Tore André Flo in 2000.

If Rangers are unable to meet the asking price, English clubs could step in.

Burnley potential option

Burnley F.C. may soon begin planning for life back in the Championship as they battle against Premier League relegation. Should they drop down, the Clarets could look to follow a similar approach to Leeds United, who previously signed Swansea’s top scorer to help fuel a successful promotion push.

Burnley already have attacking options such as Zian Flemming, but his most productive seasons at Millwall F.C. and Fortuna Sittard came in a more advanced midfield role. Bringing in Vipotnik could allow Flemming to operate behind a central striker while adding a forward capable of scoring 20+ goals in the Championship.

Vipotnik’s efficiency in front of goal — converting a high percentage of his chances — suggests he could thrive for a team expected to dominate matches and create plenty of opportunities.

Ipswich also a possible destination

Another club who could consider a move is Ipswich Town. If Kieran McKenna’s side secure promotion to the Premier League, they may seek additional firepower up front despite the solid performances of George Hirst.

Signing a striker without Premier League experience could carry some risk, but Vipotnik’s style might suit a newly promoted side. Teams like Ipswich often spend long periods without possession in the top flight and depend on a powerful centre-forward who can hold up play and convert limited chances.

Vipotnik has shown exactly those qualities this season, scoring regularly despite relatively low expected-goals numbers.

Even if Ipswich remain in the Championship, they would still be a strong attacking side capable of creating numerous chances — something that could make Vipotnik a perfect fit for McKenna’s squad.
