Coventry City manager Frank Lampard reacts to injury blows hitting Middlesbrough’s rivals

Frank Lampard issues warning as Coventry City face injury setbacks amid title race

Championship title contenders Coventry City and Middlesbrough both secured impressive away wins over the weekend, keeping the battle for the second-tier title intense.

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has urged his players not to ease off as they turn their attention to a tough home double-header against Preston North End and Southampton.

The Sky Blues extended their advantage over Middlesbrough to eight points temporarily with a 2‑0 win at play-off rivals Bristol City. Both goals came in the first half from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Haji Wright, despite Coventry playing the second half with ten men after defender Joel Latibeaudiere was sent off just before halftime.

Middlesbrough responded with a 4‑0 away win at Queens Park Rangers, with goals from Morgan Whittaker, Alan Browne, Hayden Hackney, and Tommy Conway, keeping the title race tight.

Lampard praised his squad for their work ethic and organisation but warned there’s no room for complacency. He told the club website:

“There are ten games to go — 30 points — it’s a lot. This league is a challenge, so the last thing I want is for anyone to think the next games will be easy. How you approach each match is crucial. The lads have trained brilliantly and performed with the right work ethic recently. That has to continue, from starters to subs and everyone in between, so we can take advantage of this opportunity.”

However, the weekend’s victories came with bad news: defender Bobby Thomas and midfielder Jack Rudoni have been ruled out of the Bristol City clash and are expected to miss the remainder of March, likely returning after the upcoming international break. Lampard confirmed both players are dealing with calf issues and may only be available for the game against Swansea or later.
