Jens Berthel Askou ‘desperate’ for Celtic F.C. job as Martin O’Neill exit looms
Celtic F.C. are already laying the groundwork for a managerial shake-up this summer, with the search underway for a successor to Martin O’Neill.
And one name is rapidly gaining traction—Jens Berthel Askou.
The Motherwell F.C. boss is reportedly “extremely keen” on taking over at Parkhead, with strong suggestions he would seize the opportunity without hesitation if approached.
“Would take it in a heartbeat”
According to journalist Mike Gannon, Askou’s desire to land the Celtic role is no secret behind the scenes.
Speaking on the Record Celtic Podcast, Gannon revealed that those close to the Danish coach believe he would jump at the chance instantly—even joking he would “jog along the M74” to secure the move.
With Celtic already credited with interest in the 43-year-old, a potential deal could be relatively straightforward—especially given his current contract situation.
Rising reputation in Scotland
Askou has impressed this season with Motherwell, guiding them into the top four despite operating on a significantly smaller budget than Scotland’s top sides.
Still early in his managerial career, the Dane is seen as one of the most promising coaches in the league, though stepping into the Celtic hot seat would represent a major leap compared to his current role.
High stakes at Parkhead
Celtic currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership, trailing Heart of Midlothian F.C., and failure to reclaim the title would be viewed as a major disappointment.
Whoever takes charge next season will be under immediate pressure to deliver silverware—and Askou appears more than ready to embrace that challenge.
