“Why didn’t you warn me?” — Julian Araujo reacts to Celtic life after chat with Ryan Christie
Julian Araujo has quickly become a fan favourite at Celtic FC since arriving on loan in January, and teammate Ryan Christie has revealed he played a role in convincing him to make the move.
The Mexican right-back has impressed with his energetic and passionate displays, especially in matches against Rangers FC. His dramatic 97th-minute winner in a 3-2 comeback victory over Kilmarnock FC at Rugby Park further boosted his popularity, with his celebration—jumping into the away end to celebrate with supporters—making a strong impression on the Celtic faithful.
Christie, who spent six years at Celtic and won multiple honours before joining AFC Bournemouth in 2021, admitted he encouraged Araujo to take the opportunity.
Speaking about a recent conversation between the pair, Christie said he had tried to prepare Araujo for the intensity of the experience. He warned him that Celtic supporters operate on a completely different level and told him to be ready for the atmosphere.
However, Araujo’s response summed up his experience so far. After settling in, he jokingly asked Christie why he hadn’t been given a stronger warning about just how intense it would be. Despite that, the defender has fully embraced life in Glasgow and is enjoying his time at the club.
Christie added that Araujo has taken everything in stride, quickly adapting both on and off the pitch. Although he is currently dealing with a minor injury, he is eager to return to action as soon as possible.
Looking ahead, it remains unclear whether the move will become permanent. Araujo is still under contract with Bournemouth until 2029, and any deal could be complicated by wage demands.
Even so, Christie believes the defender has the personality and mentality required to handle the pressure and expectation that comes with playing in Old Firm fixtures, suggesting he is well-suited to life at Celtic.
