Celtic board respond to fan anger at Tannadice as tensions rise off-camera

Celtic FC board face backlash as fan anger erupts at Tannadice after defeat to Dundee United

Celtic’s board members were forced to leave the directors’ box at Tannadice after furious supporters reacted angrily to the team’s 2-0 defeat against Dundee United.

The result marked Celtic’s eighth Premiership loss of the season, leaving them in third place and five points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian. Frustration among supporters has been building throughout the campaign, with criticism stretching back to a disappointing summer transfer window and an early European exit to Kairat Almaty.

Tensions reached a boiling point at full-time, with TV footage showing angry fans moving toward the directors’ area. Among those present were chief executive Michael Nicholson, chief financial officer Chris McKay, and interim chairman Brian Wilson, all of whom were targeted by the backlash.

Broadcast coverage cut away from the scenes, but BBC Sportsound presenter Richard Gordon described the situation live, noting a stark contrast between the celebrations of the home side and the mood surrounding Celtic.

He explained that while many supporters had already left the stadium, a section remained behind to vent their anger. Police stepped in to form a barrier as tensions escalated, with fans directing their frustration not only at the players but also at the club’s hierarchy.

The incident underlines growing unrest among the Celtic support, with pressure continuing to mount on those in charge at Parkhead as the season unfolds.
