Carlos Carvalhal has sent a heartfelt message to Sheffield Wednesday supporters ahead of his emotional return to Hillsborough for a special charity match.
After a difficult period for the Owls—marked by financial struggles under Dejphon Chansiri and confirmed relegation from the Championship—fans have had little to celebrate. However, a reunion event featuring Carvalhal and members of the memorable 2015/16 squad offers a rare moment of optimism.
The charity match, scheduled for May, will see the former boss reunited with players and supporters from that iconic campaign.
carvalhal’s message to fans
Speaking ahead of the event, Carvalhal encouraged fans to attend and be part of the occasion:
“Hi Sheffield Wednesday supporters, I will be at Hillsborough on the 8th and 9th May with my players and my staff, and with a lot of supporters. I hope that you will be there too!”
reliving a special season
The 2015/16 season remains a standout memory for Wednesday fans. Under Carvalhal, the club finished sixth in the Championship and defeated Brighton & Hove Albion in the play-off semi-finals.
Although promotion to the Premier League slipped away after a narrow final defeat to Hull City at Wembley—decided by Mohamed Diamé—the campaign remains one of the club’s most cherished modern moments.
a moment of hope
With the club aiming to rebuild and push for a return to the Championship next season, Carvalhal’s return—alongside familiar faces from a more successful era—offers supporters a chance to reconnect with happier times and look forward with renewed optimism.
